(9:30) "The Jews say, 'Uzair (Ezra) is the son of Allah,' and the Christians say, 'The Messiah is the son of Allah.' That is their statement from their mouths; they imitate the sayings of those who disbelieved before them. May Allah destroy them; how are they deluded?"
(9:31) "They have taken their scholars and monks as lords besides Allah, and [also] the Messiah, the son of Mary. And they were not commanded except to worship one God; there is no deity except Him. Exalted is He above whatever they associate with Him."

| Claim | Some Jews referred to Uzair as "the son of Allah." | Christians believe Jesus is "the son of God." |
| Historical Context | Some Jewish sects, due to loss of scripture and religious turmoil, exaggerated the status of Uzair. | Christian doctrine, especially influenced by Pauline Christianity, emphasized the divine sonship of Jesus. |
| Divine Rebuke | The Quran categorizes these beliefs as fabrications imitating previous disbelievers. | Associating partners with Allah is a fundamental theological error in Islam. |
According to Al-Suddi and other scholars, the following incident led to the misconception regarding Uzair:
๐น When the Amalekites overpowered the Children of Israel, they killed their scholars and took many as captives. ๐น Uzair (Ezra), deeply saddened by the destruction of knowledge, cried excessively until his eyelids sagged.
1๏ธโฃ One day, he passed by a graveyard where a woman was mourning her deceased relative. 2๏ธโฃ She lamented, "Who will provide for him now?" 3๏ธโฃ Uzair asked, "Who used to provide for you before?" She replied, "Allah." 4๏ธโฃ Uzair responded, "Allah is Ever-Living and never dies!" 5๏ธโฃ She then questioned, "Who used to teach scholars before Bani Israel?" Uzair answered, "Allah." 6๏ธโฃ This realization struck him deeply, making him reflect on the true source of knowledge.
๐น Uzair was instructed to bathe in a specific river and perform two rakโahs of prayer. ๐น There, an elderly figure appeared and placed something in his mouthโlike a burning coal three times. ๐น Instantly, Uzair became one of the most knowledgeable men regarding the Torah.
๐น He wrote the Torah from memory, astonishing people. ๐น When scholars returned and verified his text, they found it to be identical to hidden manuscripts. ๐น Some ignorant people, amazed by his knowledge, wrongly assumed he must be the son of Allah.
