Verse 68: Characteristics of the Cow

Allah Almighty says:

They said, "Call upon your Lord to make clear to us what it is."

Musa (Moses) replied: He says, "Indeed, it is a cow neither old nor virgin, but of middle age."

  • فَارِضٌ (Fārid): An aged cow that has lost fertility. Derived from فَرَضَتْ تَفْرِضُ فُرُوضًا (meaning to age and become infertile).
  • بِكْرٌ (Bikr): A young heifer that has never given birth.
  • عَوَانٌ (ʿAwān): Middle-aged, between young and old. According to Al-Akhfash, it refers to a cow that has given birth multiple times.

Verse 69: Color of the Cow
